{"id":12185,"date":"2025-10-06T14:02:08","date_gmt":"2025-10-06T12:02:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/unetxea.org\/?p=12185"},"modified":"2025-10-06T14:02:08","modified_gmt":"2025-10-06T12:02:08","slug":"the-contest-is-on","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/unetxea.org\/en\/the-contest-is-on\/","title":{"rendered":"The contest is on!"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<p><strong><em>In 2025, in its 16th edition, the contest is entitled <a href=\"https:\/\/dame1minutode.org\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cGive me 1 minute of \u2013 CULTURE\u201d<\/a>.<\/em><\/strong> \u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>In this edition, awards will be given to the best 1-minute audiovisual pieces that defend, promote, claim, disseminate and\/or raise awareness <strong>about cultural rights<\/strong>. \u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Cultural rights are a category of human rights that guarantee individuals and communities the possibility of accessing, participating in and contributing to cultural life, as well as preserving their identity and heritage. These rights are essential to human dignity and are recognised in various international instruments. \u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Cultural rights are part of the universal human rights system established by international treaties and declarations, such as:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/en\/about-us\/universal-declaration-of-human-rights\">Universal Declaration of Human Rights<\/a> (1948). Article 27.<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ohchr.org\/en\/instruments-mechanisms\/instruments\/international-covenant-economic-social-and-cultural-rights\">International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights<\/a> (1966). Article 15.<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unesco.org\/en\/legal-affairs\/unesco-universal-declaration-cultural-diversity\">UNESCO Declaration on Cultural Diversity<\/a> (2001).<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.unesco.org\/en\/legal-affairs\/convention-protection-and-promotion-diversity-cultural-expressions\">Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions<\/a> (UNESCO, 2005).<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/social.desa.un.org\/issues\/indigenous-peoples\/united-nations-declaration-on-the-rights-of-indigenous-peoples\">United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples<\/a> (2007).<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.refworld.org\/legal\/general\/cescr\/2009\/en\/83710\">General Comment 21<\/a> (2009) of the UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (CESCR).<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/hrlibrary.umn.edu\/instree\/Fribourg%20Declaration.pdf\">Freiburg Declaration on Cultural Rights<\/a> (2007).<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p>One of the major challenges facing the United Nations human rights system is to clarify and raise awareness of cultural rights, which are considered \u2018minor rights\u2019 and for which fewer regulatory instruments have been developed to date.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Cultural rights do not protect heritage or artistic expressions per se, but rather ensure the participation of all people (especially women, migrants, people with functional diversity, the LGTBIQ+ community, indigenous people, etc.), artistic education, creation, artistic freedom, the mobility of artists, the economic and social rights of artists, access to and enjoyment of heritage and other cultural facilities, etc. \u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>The deadline for <a href=\"https:\/\/forms.gle\/Zm7q8awg4LX3ayWE7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">registration<\/a> and submission of videos will remain open until 31 January 2026. (inclusive).<\/strong> \u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>The Jury will particularly value:<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>Videos that focus on cultural rights, the participation of all people in cultural life <em>(especially women, migrants, people with functional diversity, the LGTBIQ+ community, indigenous people, etc.)<\/em>, arts education, creation, artistic freedom, the mobility of artists, the economic and social rights of artists, access to and enjoyment of heritage and other cultural facilities, among other areas.<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Videos that promote, support and commit to human rights.<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Videos that contribute to building a sustainable future leaving no one behind, leaving no one out.<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>The acceptance and social incorporation of difference and cultural, social, identity and gender diversity.<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>The visibilisation of people\u2019s capacities and strategies to demand their rights either individually or collectively.<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>The involvement of society in the struggle for a fairer, more inclusive, equitable and sustainable world.<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Videos that advocate for gender equality and women\u2019s empowerment.<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Paternalistic, victimising or sensationalist tones should be avoided.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\r\n\r\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\r\n<figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-4957\" src=\"https:\/\/dame1minutode.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/egut-ikon.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"37\" height=\"37\" \/><\/figure>\r\n<\/div>\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Remember:<\/strong> the deadline for <a href=\"https:\/\/forms.gle\/Zm7q8awg4LX3ayWE7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">registration<\/a> and submission of videos will remain <strong>open until 31 January 2026<\/strong>.
