UN grants

We have managed the UN Grants programme since 1997, with funding from the Basque Agency for Development Cooperation.

UN Etxea selects, trains and monitors young people from the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country who take part in these programmes which last up to two years.
Since 1997, some 190 young people have been awarded these grants and joined UNESCO offices in impoverished countries, thus beginning a professional career in international cooperation and the UN.

BBK-UNESCO
grants

Every year, the BBK Foundation together with UN Etxea offers two grants with the aim of facilitating a professional internship at the Headquarters of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) in Paris.
15 young people from Biscay have received this six-month long grant since 2014. All grant beneficiaries have had the opportunity to pursue their professional career in UNESCO.

Training grants in Urdaibai

With the support of the Basque Government’s Natural Heritage and Climate Change Directorate, UN Etxea runs two annual grant programmes for a paid practical training residency in the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve.

Cultural heritage training grants

With the support of the Department of Basque and Culture in Biscay Regional Council, UN Etxea awards grants for paid practical training within its culture for development programme.

Human rights training grants

In collaboration with the International Catholic Center of Geneva, UN Etxea periodically organises training on the UN Human Rights Council (Geneva) and its policy tools.

This programme of training grants facilitates a practical experience of the UN’s work to uphold human rights. The programme combines a theoretical component with practical in-person participation in various areas of the Human Rights Council.

Training grants for the GizARTE Network

With the support of the Basque Agency for Development Cooperation, UN Etxea offers members of the GizARTE Network the opportunity to take part in extended training in cultural entities and to participate in international events on education for social transformation.
